I'm horrified by the brutality that caused a critical injury in Oakland

To me the most tragic death in war is the last one. All deaths and injuries are tragic during war but the last one occurs even though everybody knows it's over. For the Occupiers and the 99% we've won. The 1% and the politicians know it, so stop the unnecessary brutality and the risk it brings. The alternative of living with the knowledge that you did the wrong thing is not worth it.

For the rest of us, the simple act of wearing New Glory Purple works because it allows us to show and cast our vote for REAL change. When we wear New Glory Purple and our politicians see it, they’ll realize if they don’t listen to and address our concerns, it’s the end of the line for them and they’ll be voted out of office. We want action now! So we’ll do something now, wear New Glory Purple! The OWS movement is not anti-American it’s ultra-American. Let’s all work together to help Occupiers and democracy, so that they can come in from the cold to the warm embrace of a society that helps each other and wont tolerate a select few taking advantage of the rest of us. We are the 99% and we will be heard.

Wear Purple goes to Occupy LA

Spreading the idea of wear light purple I went to LA to see the Occupy LA site. It's an amazing place and the people are great and very motivated to be herd, very inspirational!

After my talk about purple I was overwhelmed by the occupiers and handed out about 800 armbands. I also met Lauren Holly who was very nice and put on her New Glory Purple armband and asked a lot of questions.

How can you get some New Glory Purple?

As of now and even though there is no centralized system to distribute pieces of fabric but you can still wear purple. Find something that's as close to the color as possible and wear it. I saw a friend with purple nail polish or a scarf, hat or shirt.

If you want to do more, print out a copy of the color and bring it to your fabric store and match the color to the cheapest fabric you can find, tear it up and wear proudly. Then give out the rest to your friends.

New Glory Purple should not be manufactured into plastic, rubber, jewelry or anything else for profit. Anything that is manufactured, is not authentic to the cause. Fabric should always be torn, something humans are very good and and very difficult for a machine.

Spread the word!

If you're a bit more computer savvy you can make a swatch with the values listed on the swatch.

OWS purple workgroup gets its hands on 75 yards of fabric

The OWS purple workgroup got a hold of 75 yards of light purple fabric and brought it down to liberty plaza.

A team quickly gathered to cut it up into about a thousand strips.

Supporters enthusiastically grabbed them up and promised to spread the word about New Glory Purple within a few hours all of them were gone! Russell Simmons came by to see what was going on and took a strip, also Jerry of the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream herd the story and is sporting a New Glory Purple tie.
There were a lot of great people who helped and thank you! Here's a picture of Mike Villata, Christopher Henze and Alan Feingenberg.

This means that about 2000 pieces of fabric are being used by supporters as armbands, headbands, bracelets and more.

New Glory Purple story picked up by Newspapers

3 Publications including the LA Times and a few blogs picked up the talk about purple in the Thursday Night General Assembly. Here's the paragraph about purple

A man named Chris used the public forum to propose that Occupy Wall Street adopt purple as its color, because that’s what you get by mixing red, white and blue. "We’re not anti-American, we’re ultra-American," the man said.

Light Purple color brought to the General Assembly

On Thursday, October 13th the concept of the color was presented as part of the announcements section of the NYC General assembly. Because of the impending possibility of the "evection" there over 1000 people there.

Here's the section that talks about purple

Our last announcement – our second to last announcement – is from Chris. Your spirit of unity that I’m observing tonight is truly inspirational. If anybody out there thinks they can kick us out of this park, they’re gonna learn something! The spirit of unity propose that we adopt a color. If we take the colors of the American flag, red, white, blue, mix them together, we get light purple. Because this movement is not anti-American, it is ultra-American! ….we can stop this by all wearing a little purple. My mom can wear purple when she’s buying groceries. If anyone wants one of these armbands, I’d love to give one to you. Thank you.

The complete supply of New Glory Purple fabric strips were given out!

Proposal for Occupy Wall Street to Adopt a Color

The Proposal for the adoption of a color to represent the movement

With the hope to expand the ability to show support for Occupy Wall Street exponentially, it is proposed that the movement adopts a color. If you combine the colors of the American Flag you get light purple. Occupy Wall Street is not anti-American, it’s ultra-American. It’s too much right now to separate us into Red, Blue or White. The OWS movement represents a mix of the 99% which is light Purple.

To adopt a color also allows those who can't be at one of the occupations to show their solidarity and protest. Wearing the color will show the doubters that there are more of us that they imagined and that this movement needs to be taken seriously.

It is proposed that we call the color “New Glory Purple” because it is the result of mixing of “New Glory Red”, New Glory Blue” and White.

It is proposed that New Glory Purple is not an exclusive color but an additive one. If a member, group or activist has their own color, then New Glory Purple can be an added highlight or in other ways.

It is proposed that New Glory Purple be used as a tool for protest. OWS will be marching and the marchers will have purple on. The authorities will be concentrating their efforts on limiting the impact and effect of the march. How will they deal with the situation when not only are most of the marchers accented with New Glory Purple but also the people watching the march? Authorities will further understand that indeed they are surrounded by the 99%.

It is proposed that New Glory Purple not be manufactured into plastic, rubber, metal, etc. That it is always the result of repurposing an item or simple torn fabric or ribbons, which can be creatively used in many individual ways. New Glory Purple is a tool that is given to the people to evolve and create with.

It is proposed that New Glory Purple be worn by anybody who wants to show their solidarity to the movement. I think that it will be a wake-up call for the 1% when they see people wearing New Glory Purple surrounds them, even when they are shopping for groceries.

It is proposed that this color be used worldwide because America has been seen as a beacon of democracy and the honoring of that heritage by creating the color from the American flag and evolving it to what could be seen as a purer form forwards the powerful message of Occupy Wall Street.

The color was created by combining in equal parts the wiki-listed RGB values of Old Glory Red 178, 35, 52 with Old Glory Blue 60, 59, 110 which creates makes 119, 47, 81 and then adding 33% white to complete the last third. This results in a purple color with the RGB value of 159, 109, 132. CMYK 38.78% 63.09% 32.23% 3.53% HEX: 9F6D84 Pantone 5135.
